Environmental Management An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a formal process for controlling environmental risks or concerns at an organization. If properly designed and implemented, an EMS can be the process by which an organization’s senior management ensures that the environmental performance they expect from their activities and personnel meets their legal and business requirements, consistently and cost-effectively. The international standard ISO 14001 is widely accepted as the benchmark for an EMS. Cotter assists organizations in defining their environmental objectives and implementing an appropriate EMS to meet those objectives. For an organization without a formal EMS, the proper implementation of systematic management to environmental issues typically leads to cost savings. Improved environmental performance and increased profits can be realized simultaneously through waste reduction and the more efficient use of raw materials. Cotter is an expert in identifying such opportunities. Non-compliance issues can also be a source of real and latent environmental costs. Cotter's approach to EMS implementation involves working closely with the client to devise a system which is consistent with the particular culture of the organization. We provide strategic advice on what needs to be done and how to do it, and we can provide proven tools and methodologies to ensure that the development and implementation of an EMS is both timely and cost-effective. |
